Chief's Monthly Report 5/14/10
To: Village of Fontana Protection Committee Members and Trustees
From: Steven Olson, Chief of Police
RE: Administrative Report
PT Officer Ryan Halsted has resigned effect 5/14/10. He currently works for two other departments part time and did not have time available to commit to our agency.
I am looking into a grant for a new radio through the OJA since all of our current radios are 13 years old. This radio will have the ability to be part of the new statewide interoperability system. The grant will cover all costs.
I am also researching a grant for an electronic fingerprinting system. However I am not optimistic that we will qualify or have the needed additional funds to install.
The PD will be contacting various business effected by the new no smoking law to review their duties and our responsibilities.
The PD at the request of the officers is seeking the amount of the forfeiture for Obstructing an Officer from the current $ 250.00 plus costs. To something that would be more of a deterrent and or cover our costs of investigations in false report situations. To put us mid range would mean raise the base fine to $375.00
The Village is looking into our current alcoholic operator’s licensing procedure specifically regarding whether the Board should consider ‘pending’ charges related to alcohol or drugs when making licensing decisions. It also appears that PC should not be reviewing questionable applications leaving that up to the trustees.
Recently we recovered $2,500 in restitution taken in a contractor fraud case we prosecuted in county court.
Painting of the PSB is nearly complete and I am seeking bids on fixing the ever increasing gap in between the sidewalk and the building’s wall. This has been expanding every year due to ice and water getting into openings.
