DEPARTMENT SERVICES AND PROGRAMS: The Village of Fontana Police Department has a number of programs to better serve our community. Included are: COUNTERACT: A multi week counter drug and alcohol abuse program taught to fifth grade students. SCHOLARSHIP: If you are a Fontana resident and starting your second year of college majoring in Criminal Justice or Police Science you may qualify for a $500.00 scholarship from the Walworth County Chiefs' of Police Association. See Chief Olson for details. OPERATION "FEED THE NEED": The FPD is collects non-perishable food items for area food pantries several times a year. If you wish to donate items you can drop off any non-perishable food items at the PD or you can call our office at 275-2275 and an officer will stop by your Fontana home or business and they will collect your donation. House Check Program: Because we realize that a large number of our residents live here only in the summer or go on a short vacation, we offer the opportunity to have their house checked during the time they are not here. To have your house checked, stop at the Police Department and complete a form. Student Mentoring Program: All officers of the Fontana Police Department spend a few days a year at the Fontana Elementary School. The officers work with the students, helping them with schoolwork and participating in class room activities. Hopefully the children will be able to build a positive relationship with the police at an early age that will grow with them through adulthood. Neighborhood Walk and Talk Program: While a great deal of an officer's time is spent patrolling in a squad car, we like to get out of the car and conduct foot or bicycle patrols. This allows the officers to interact with the public and creates a chance for the community to get to know the officers. Citizen Ride-Along Program: The Fontana Police Department has program that allows citizens to ride with an officer during his/her shift. To sign up contact the Police Department during normal business hours. This is a great chance to see what your local law enforcement is all about. Free Gun Locks: The Fontana Police Department has free gun locks for citizens. To pick up your free lock, stop at the Police Department or call the office and an officer will explain how to use the gun lock. No registration is required. Lost and Found Property: Any found property can be turned into the Police Department who will attempt to find the owner. If you have lost anything in the Village of Fontana you can contact the Police Department to see if the item has been turned in. Group Tours: Tours of the Police Department can be arraigned for neighborhood associations, religious or social organizations or scouts. To setup a tour contact the Police Department during normal business hours. Used Cell Phones: Our department is dedicated to the safety of the victims of family violence. We are asking that citizens donate their used cell phones to the Fontana Police Department who will give them to the county Association for the Prevention of Family Violence. The APFV will give them to victims of domestic abuse so they can summon police if needed. You can turn in your phones at the Fontana Police Department located at 185 Douglas Avenue in Fontana or at the Village Hall. Guest Speakers: Would you like to have an officer speak at your next social or group function? We can arrange to have an officer speak to your group on any of a number of topics or just to answer your questions. Fingerprinting: Various occupations such as teachers require that a person be fingerprinted in the course of their employment. If you need to be fingerprinted you can make an appointment with our office to get the printing done. Parents may also request we fingerprint a child so they have a record on file should the child go missing. Free Child Identification Kits: The PD through a generous donation from the Big Foot Lions Club now has child ID kits available that allow a parent to keep a picture of their child, fingerprints and a DNA sample all in one folder and quickly available should the child go missing for any reason. PD staff will assist the parent in getting a proper set of prints for the card, BUT all the information is held by the parent NOT the PD. The kits can be obtained for free at the PD |
